If you own a business (excluding direct sales like Avon, Mary Kay, etc.) you must pay local sales tax on your items sold and certain services rendered. (Whether you live on post or not). You may opt to do this monthly, quarterly or annually. If you don't generate a great amount of income from your business, annually is the best choice. Contact the comptrollers office to find out if your business is eligible to pay taxes or not.

If you own a business (including direct sales like Avon, Mary Kay, etc.) you must complete an application for solicitation (in person) if you live on Fort Bliss. The process usually takes about six (6) weeks. Legal will verify whether or not you may conduct business on the installation. Please remember that this isn't to make it difficult for you to start/operate a business, it is to make sure family members are in compliance with the law regarding solicitations within the installation and that you understand that it is a privilege to do so.

(Please note: filing an assumed name is not a guarantee that the business name/type is not in business. Conduct a search first before filing your name)
How do I file for an Assumed Name?
Assumed names may be filed at the County Courthouse (map) or satellite offices.
How much does it cost to register an assumed name?
Filing fee:
$20.00 plus 50¢ for each additional registrant
Withdrawal Fee:
$14.00 plus $20.00 for re-filing and 50¢ for any additional registrant
Why must I register an Assumed Name?
Each business in the County must file an Assumed Name Certificate (also known as "d.b.a." or "doing business as") with the County Clerk so a record of the business is available.
Assumed name certificates are good for 10 years from date of filing the certificate.
The clerk has no duty to notify a party of the expiration of a certificate.
Withdrawals of a partner or abandonment of an assumed name are recorded also. Changes such as business name, address of business or registrants(partners), etc., must be filed within 60 days of the change.
All registrants (partners, owners, etc.) must appear in person unless their signature(s) are notarized on the form.
